ARIE Fauzi won the fourth leg of the Professional Golf of Malaysia (PGM) Tour’s Satellite circuit at
Lanjut Golden Beach & Golf Resort in Kuala Rompin, Pahang today.

The 22-year-old lad from Ampang, Kuala Lumpur, shot an even-par 72 that gave him a massive 13-stroke victory on the Malaysian east coast and secured him a Tour card for the rest of the season. He finished the three-day event with a four-under 212 total, which left amateur player Faizul Hafiz Zulkefli (76) in second place. Shah Irwan Rusli (73), another amateur who did well, and Noel Faizal Hassan (76) were tied for third on 227, while Mohd Rozi Mat Jusoh (74) and Chong Lip-Shien (76) were joint fifth on 233.

Speaking after his first win on the PGM Tour, Arie said he just tried to concentrate on not making “too many mistakes” on the last day.

“That was my plan,” said the player, who graduated from Tulsa University in Tulsa, Oklahoma, last December with a business degree. “I had a nine-stroke lead coming into the last round, so I knew if I just played par-golf it would be difficult for the rest of the field to catch up with me. It worked out just fine in the end and I’m really happy to have secured my first victory on the Tour.”

Looking ahead, Arie added: “Now I can focus on playing more events on the PGM and Asean Tours. Hopefully, I can also get a few slots on the ADT and Asian Tours. That would be nice as I hope to further my golf career on these local Tours.

“I do know that it will not be easy and that I will have to work hard, but I’m prepared to do that and see it as a challenge for me” he added.

The next event on the PGM Tour is the LADA Langkawi Masters at Gunung Raya Golf Club from April 25-28.
